If you think Teriyaki is just another sauce, you are wrong. It is a Japanese cooking technique, involving boiling or broiling meat or seafood with a sweet and salty soy mixture which turns into a sticky glaze. While the original recipe uses local Japanese ingredients like sake and mirin. We have prepared a much simpler yet delicious version using humble ingredients which you can find in your refrigerator. You can serve this teriyaki chicken with rice or noodles and steamed vegetables to make a complete meal. Teriyaki Chicken is one of the most popular entrees to be served all around the world.
Try this easy, quick, delicious Asian-style Teriyaki Chicken for a weeknight dinner or a weekend appetizer – it takes just 20 minutes to make using a few ingredients!
Ingredients -
500 gms chicken
4 cloves of minced garlic
1/2 inch grated ginger
2 tsp honey
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp vinegar
Oil for cooking
Salt to taste
Sesame seeds to serve
Steamed vegetables like bok choi to serve
Fresh cucumbers or celery to serve
Procedure -
Heat some oil in a pan. Add the chicken to the pan and fry it until the chicken is golden brown. This will take about 8 to 10 minutes.
Add the ginger and garlic and fry for another minute.
Add the soy sauce, vinegar, honey, and some water. Stir and boil it all together and let it cook for another 5 minutes until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and is coated with a sticky and thick sauce.
Your Chicken Teriyaki is ready to be served!
To serve-
You can serve the chicken teriyaki with rice and steamed vegetable to make a complete meal. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks -
You can either boneless chicken or bones in. Both work with the recipe.
You can use tofu or cottage cheese as a vegetarian option.
You can substitute honey with sugar.
Light soy sauce is preferred for the recipe. Though you can use dark soy sauce as well.
Add a dash of sesame oil for flavor. It's completely optional.
You can pair it with your choice of vegetables. Broccoli and bok choi pair beautifully with it.
It can be served as a complete meal or just as an appetizer.
